Dr. Mittal earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Industrial Management and Systems Engineering at West Virginia University, USA. Before that, he completed his M.Tech. from MNIT Jaipur and his B.Tech. from NIT Kurukshetra. Since December 2019, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Management, JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur.

From June 2021 to March 2023, Dr. Mittal was on extended leave to pursue a postdoctoral research fellowship at Tampere University, Finland. He resumed his position at JK Lakshmipat University in March 2023 and continued there until May 2025. In June 2025, he joined the Department of Operations and Decision Science at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur campus, as an Associate Professor.

In recognition of his academic and research contributions, Dr. Mittal was inducted as a lifetime member of Alpha Pi Mu—the Industrial Engineering Honor Society at West Virginia University—in 2017. He was also awarded an NSF-funded student travel grant to attend the 2019 North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) held in Erie, Pennsylvania. Additionally, his research team received the Marco Garetti Best Paper Award at the IFIP PLM 2022 Conference held in Grenoble, France.

Dr. Mittal’s research has been published in several high-impact journals, including Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Manufacturing Systems, and Production Planning and Control. His work has garnered over 3,250 citations on Google Scholar and more than 1,900 citations on Scopus. A list of his selected publications is provided below:
