Sustainable, Smart and Socially Responsible Organisations: The Roadmap to Business Excellence

Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore organized International Management Conference on the theme “Sustainable, Smart and Socially Responsible Organisations: The Roadmap to Business Excellence”. The conference commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Sachin Mittal Convener of the conference introduced the conference theme to the august gathering. Dr. Mittal highlighted that the conference has attracted researchers from all over the world and a total of 50 research papers were received. After a rigorous review process, the committee shortlisted 40 best papers to be presented in the conference. Total 79 authors have contributed in the conference. The research papers were presented in three technical sessions before a panel of experts which comprised of eminent and profound academicians and researchers. The deliberations began with Dr. Harshavardhan Halve welcoming all the dignitaries and delegates to the international conference. Dr. Halve stressed on the need of the educationists today to work delivering quality of research output. As well as to keep a focus on industry – relevance of the research contribution made.
The International delegates who delivered the keynote address were from Australia and Canada. They were welcomed with potted plants.
The first international guest and the keynote speaker: Ms. Suzanne Smith - Murdoch University, Perth, Australia, Director International, shared her insights on “Role of Leadership in Dynamic Business Environment”. The guest began by explaining what ‘Leadership’ looks like today. She told that leadership is the ability to guide and lead. A leader should imbibe the quality to adapt according to changes. She emphasized on various leadership styles such as autocratic, bureaucratic leadership and shared that she follows situational leadership style. She said that transactional and transformational leadership creates dynamic personality when put together. Explaining the essentials of a good leader she shed lights on cultural diversity and communication. She ended her impactful speech by stating that a successful leader will be a lifelong learner.
The first Guest of Honour: Ms. Karen McCloskey - Lambton College, Canada and spoke on “Mobile Tools and Business Excellence”. She explained the importance of Mobile tools and “Just in Time” technology in practical life and inside various departments of an organization. Explaining that while people are learning in a mobile way, they will come across multiple contents. She also emphasized on the reasons for business practicing mobile training, which talks about improved knowledge retention and more engagement with training. The second Guest of Honour: Mr. Matthew Radford, Lambton College, Canada International Recruitment & Marketing addressed the gathering on “Managing Smart Workers for Business Excellence”. He started by explaining the education system in Canada stating that it’s costly and the student has to earn an education, no parent or Government will or can afford to grant it. When an organization looks for employees it facilitates the one with experience rather than spending on training of the employee. They believe in retaining talent by giving promotions rather than hiring new employees. Therefore, the percentage of young people placed at a higher position in an organization is significantly low.
The inaugural program was anchored by Dr. Megha Jain, Co-Convener of the international conference and vote of thanks of inaugural session has been proposed by Ms. Devika Trehan.
Three technical sessions were organized sessions were organized after the inauguration ceremony. Best Ph.D. Award Presentations were also organized during the conference to promote the culture of acknowledging and promoting quality research in the field of management.
The Best Ph.D. session witnessed a total of 6 scholars delivered presentations which were shortlisted after a rigorous review process. The Best Ph.D. Award was conferred on Dr. Kapil Shrimal who completed his Ph.D. in the area of Finance on the topic “Effect of Financial Performance on Market Capitalization: A Study of Listed Infrastructural Companies in India”. The panel of experts for this session were Dr. Vivek Singh Kushwaha, Director, IBMR IPS Academy and Dr. Yamini Karmarkar, Professor, IMS, DAVV, Indore.
The theme of 1st technical session was “Marketing and IT Practices for Sustainable, Smart and Socially Responsible Organizations”. Total 9 papers were presented during the session. Session chairs in this session were Mr. Prasenjeet Mukherjee: Director and VP, Overseas Education, Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Manvinder Singh Pahwa, Associate Professor, School of Business and Commerce, Manipal University, Jaipur, Dr. Rekha Attri , Assistant Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore, Dr. Romi Sainy, Associate Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. Rapporteur of the session was Ms. Nidhi Bhardwaj.
Major findings of the session were: Information and Communication Technology has an excessive role in science, education, financial service sector, security sector, communication sector and textile sector. Income and Age together are important variable for Health Insurance Sector. Perceived Usefulness, Social Esteem, Security, and Reliability are the most important factors for e-payment system. Women were still portrayed in the national television advertisements in same stereotyping roles of beauty, home maker, and dependent.
Second technical session was on “Financial Practices for Sustainable, Smart and Socially Responsible Organizations”. Total seven papers were presented in the session. Session chairs were Dr. Amiya Sahu, Associate Professor, Goa Institute of Management, Goa, Dr. Priti Bakhshi, Assistant Prof. Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore, Dr. Kalyani Mulchandani, Assistant Prof., Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. Rapporteur of the session was Mr. Rohan Raghuwanshi. Major finding of the session ware: The Solar PV systems help in reducing the carbon emissions and enhance the carbon credits. It leads to 4.64 years of payback period which is very low in terms of recovering the entire cost. In Indian exports, major contribution from the processed food comes from ready to eat category followed by ready to serve and ready to cook food. The implementation of Basel III norms is affecting operational productivity of banks. Deregulation and financial reforms have been positively taken by the public sector banks. Tax would be applicable on all the gains arising out of crypto currency transactions. According to SEBI if crypto currency can be treated as commodity derivative, it can be regulated. Crude oil and gold price will negatively significant effect on BSE Sensex whereas CPI has intercept and Exchange Rate have no Effect. As per Sharpe ratio performance of BSE – 100 was found better in comparison of BSE Greenex with BSE Sensex.
Third technical session was on “HR Practices for Sustainable, Smart and Socially Responsible Organizations” and total 10 papers were presented in the session. Session were chaired by Dr. Anukrati Sharma, Asso. Prof. Department of Commerce and Management University of Kota, Kota, Dr. Manisha Shukla, Assistant Prof. Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore, and Prof. Arindam Saha, Assistant Prof. Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. Ms. Deepshikha Chavan was the rapporteur of the session. Major outcome of the sessions was: CSR activities have positive correlation with employees’ perceptions. Tier 2, 3 cities gives better platform for women entrepreneurs to start their enterprises. Organizational level and wok environment level antecedent were found to be significantly related to organizational politics whereas individual level it had no significant impact. Ethical education is important and its inclusion in the curricula is also considered as an important aspect in the overall education.
In the valedictory session, Dr. Girish Agrawal had addressed all the audience and explained importance and need of good research work. Director of the institute distributed trophy of Best Ph.D. certificate and memento to all the participants. The conference acted as a platform for the experts from various Management disciplines like Marketing, HR, and Finance to have ground breaking discussions and solutions towards business excellence. The conference attracted students, researchers, academicians and corporates and policy makers from places including Canada, Australia, Oman, Dubai, Ethiopia, Dubai to share their suggestions, thoughts, and ideas for managing business excellence. The conference came to an end with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sachin Mittal. He also announced the theme of the next year’s international conference which shall be organized the in the month of June 2019. He also confirmed that selected papers of this conference would be published in UGC listed journal “Unnayan: International Bulletin of Management and Economics of IBMR, IPS Academy, Indore.
