Mudita Goyal, a PGDM student at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, undertook a challenging and transformative internship at Zomato, delving into the fast-paced world of foodtech. Her experience at Zomato exemplifies how Jaipuria’s PGDM/MBA program equips students with the skills to thrive in real-world scenarios.
Taking Charge: Key Responsibilities at Zomato
Mudita was an essential member of the City Accounts team, tasked with expanding Zomato’s presence in Jaipur and nearby areas. Her specific project involved end-to-end onboarding of new restaurant partners, which required meticulous planning, strategic execution, and effective communication. Mudita’s responsibilities included exploring assigned areas, generating leads, contacting potential partners to explain Zomato’s commission model, and managing the entire onboarding process. Additionally, she ensured long-term retention and satisfaction by addressing post-onboarding queries.
Overcoming Challenges: Real-World Lessons
Mudita’s internship came with its share of challenges. Fieldwork was physically demanding, often involving long hours under harsh conditions while gathering essential documents and visiting multiple restaurants. Persuading restaurant owners to join Zomato required overcoming initial skepticism through clear and persuasive communication. Cold calling added to the complexity, necessitating confidence, resilience, and strong organizational skills to engage owners and secure follow-up meetings.
One of the most challenging aspects was managing the end-to-end onboarding process. Each stage of this process demanded meticulous attention to detail and strategic planning. Mudita learned that successful onboarding was just the first step—maintaining long-term partnerships and ensuring ongoing satisfaction were equally critical, requiring continuous support and effective problem-solving.
Key Learnings: Insight Beyond the Classroom
Through her internship at Zomato, Mudita gained profound insights into market analysis, strategic planning, and relationship management. Her ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and maintain accuracy under pressure was consistently tested. The experience also underscored the importance of clear communication and building strong relationships, both of which were crucial for long-term success in the foodtech industry.
Reflecting on her journey, Mudita says, “The challenges I faced at Zomato taught me how to adapt quickly, communicate effectively, and think strategically. These are skills that were rooted in my PGDM coursework but were truly honed in the real world.”
Roadmap for the Future: A Career in Foodtech
Mudita’s internship at Zomato not only tested her skills but also solidified her understanding of the foodtech industry. The hands-on experience, combined with the mentorship from Jaipuria’s faculty and industry professionals, ensured she was well-equipped to excel in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Her journey underscores how Jaipuria’s PGDM program effectively bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, preparing students for success in innovative industries like foodtech.
